No.07 — Walk the Plank

Every round, the crew sends one item over the side

Crew 3 and up Runs ~12–18 min Best for maximum drama on the bubble

Walk the Plank builds the list backwards, and it’s crueler for it. The entire pool starts aboard the ship, and each round the crew votes one item over the side. What survives to the end wins; the final ranking is just the elimination order flipped. Because everything is safe until it isn’t, the tension lives on the bubble — the item nobody loves but nobody quite wants to condemn yet.

How it plays

  1. Every item in the pool starts aboard. Nothing is ranked yet — everything is simply still alive.
  2. Each round, the crew votes for the item to eliminate. The one that draws the most votes walks the plank and splashes out.
  3. Round after round the deck thins, and each vote gets harder as the survivors get more beloved.
  4. The elimination order, reversed, is your final list: last one standing takes No.1, first overboard takes last place.
Worked example

Subject: "greatest superheroes," ten strong. The obvious duds go early — nobody weeps for Aquaman in round one. But by the final three, the crew has to actually throw either Spider-Man or Batman overboard, and the vote splits the room down the middle. Whoever splashes out gets a long, aggrieved eulogy.

Ideal crew size

Four to ten. Enough voters that eliminations aren’t decided by a single grudge, but small enough that every round moves briskly — a big pool with a big crew can run long, so trim the list if you want it tight. The bigger the starting pool, the more rounds of drama you get.

Captain’s tip

Make the crew say goodbye out loud before each item walks — a quick eulogy for the condemned. It turns a routine vote into a moment, and it’s where Walk the Plank earns its reputation as the most theatrical elimination mode in the game.
